"This visual poem brings readers on a journey through the perspective of an 80-year-old survivor of the 1950 Korean War. Readers learn that when the war halts due to an Armistice, the older sister ends up in South Korea. while the younger ends up in North Korea. Decades later, the siblings are able to unite when a peace treaty gets signed. Many people today recognize that North and South Korea are two separate countries, but are unaware of the fact that the war never ended. This poem illustrates a single lucky case among millions of families that were separated during the war. Presently, a peace treaty between the North and South has not yet been signed. By writing this poem, my intentions were to shed light on this topic, spark a sense of unity in others, and convey the message that peace has the wonderful power to bring people together."
